Autumn means wet paws. And for a lot of dogs it also means a small fight at the front door every day.
Dog runs in, owner runs after him with a towel, mud on the floor anyway.
It is much easier when the towel is a routine and not an ambush.
Put a mat and a towel by the door. Every time you come back, ask for a sit on the mat. Wipe one paw, give a treat. Next paw, next treat. Keep it short and calm.
Practice a few times on a dry day too, when nobody is in a hurry.
After a week most dogs walk onto the mat by themselves and lift a paw.
Same door. Same mat. No chasing.
