A short walk in the rain does not have to mean a bored dog at night.
When the weather is bad, most of us cut the walk to ten minutes. Fair enough. But then the dog still has energy left and starts chewing, barking or following you from room to room.
The nose can help here. Ten minutes of sniffing tires many dogs more than a long walk.
Easy one to start: let your dog watch you put a few treats under a towel on the floor. Say "find it" and let them dig them out. Next time fold the towel once more. Then roll it up.
Or skip the bowl one evening and scatter part of dinner on a rug.
Keep it easy at first, so your dog wins every time.
Short walk. Busy nose. Calm evening.
