Why do non-English people feel ashamed when they have an accent and speak broken English, and start apologizing? It’s incredibly stupid. It’s not our fault that we were born in a different country, and it’s not our fault that a person we do business with doesn’t speak our language. Despite this, I still have this awful feeling and start apologizing, feeling smaller when an English person talks. I barely can say 20% of the jokes and expressions I would say in Polish. I just wanted to share this openly, not complain, but simply share what we were talking about during lunch with my sales team, who also experiences this, and I do.
I couldn’t resist sharing this image that sometimes captures how we feel and how we look. It made my day :)
