Europe and innovation, again. This time not AI.
EU Inc. The idea was simple: one company form for the whole EU. Register fully online in 48 hours, simpler rules, stock options that work the same everywhere. Von der Leyen announced it in Davos in January, the Commission put the proposal on the table in March.
Now the founders behind the campaign wrote to the EU leaders, basically asking "why are you killing EU Inc?". They say after the negotiations the version they fought for no longer exists.
Best detail in the Tech.eu piece https://tech.eu/2026/10/16/eu-inc-will-europe-blow-its-biggest-chance-to-get-startups-right/ an Estonian founder went to Germany and a notary spent eight hours reading out loud a contract he wrote himself. Eight hours!!
We keep asking why Europe has no Apple, no OpenAI. And then we make it this hard to open a company in the next country? Come on..
