One of the biggest mistakes dog owners make with nail cutting is waiting too long.
When nails grow too long, the quick inside the nail also grows longer. This makes it harder to cut the nails short without causing pain or bleeding.
Another mistake is trying to cut too much at once.
A better way is simple:
Cut a very small amount, but do it more often.
Check your dog’s nails every 2–3 weeks. If you hear the nails clicking on the floor, they are probably too long.
If your dog is nervous, do not fight with them. Touch the paws regularly, give treats, and make nail cutting a normal thing.
And if you are not sure where to cut, ask your vet or groomer to show you once. It can save your dog a lot of stress.
