A month ago I wrote here that I will try to say YES to almost anything that takes me outside my comfort zone.
I still think it was a good promise.
But there is one thing I did not see when I wrote it.
Saying yes is easy in the moment. Somebody invites you, you feel good, you say yes. The difficult part comes later, when you look at your calendar and every hour belongs to somebody else again.
And this is a bit funny, because this is exactly the thing I wanted to stop.
For years I was building someone else's business. If I am not careful, now I will be saying yes to everyone's coffee, everyone's event, everyone's idea. Different place, same habit.
So I am trying to understand where is the line.
I think the yes is not the problem. The problem is a yes with no question behind it.
Before, I was saying yes because I did not want to miss something. Now I want to ask myself one small thing first. Will this help me learn something, meet the right people, or build something that is mine?
If it is one of these three, I go.
If not, maybe it is still a nice thing. But it is not my thing right now.
It sounds very simple when I write it. In real life I am not good at it yet. Saying no still feels a little bit rude for me. Maybe this is also something from where I grew up, same like the money thing I wrote about last time.
I don't know.
But I am starting to think that a new chapter is not about doing everything.
It is about choosing what goes inside it.
See you next month. 👋
