Two weeks until 1 November. That is when the Commission expects the 2 euro handling fee to start being collected.
Expects. Not guaranteed yet. The act was adopted on 21 September, but charging only begins after it is published in the Official Journal, and Parliament and Council still have their objection window.
A few details I skipped last time.
The fee is non-refundable. A customer orders three different items from outside the EU, sends two back, and the 6 euros stay spent. If you sell in a category with lots of returns, think about that one.
VAT goes on top of the fee. At 20% that is another 40 cents per item.
And it counts customs items, not parcels. One box can carry several fees.
On a 90 euro order none of this is big money. On a 9 euro order it is most of the margin someone was counting on.
The International Desk keeps a dated tracker on it, worth a bookmark: https://theinternationaldesk.co.uk/updates/eu-ecommerce-handling-fee
Will your customers notice it at checkout, or only when they try to send something back?
