Most rooms I walk into this time of year have the same problem, and it's on the ceiling.
One big light in the middle. Bright, flat, a bit cold. It does the job in July when you hardly use it. In October it's on from teatime.
The clocks go back next weekend, so the evenings indoors are about to get a lot longer.
I say the same thing every autumn. Keep the big light, but stop relying on it.
Put light at different heights instead. A lamp on a side table. Something low next to the sofa. A small light on a shelf or a sideboard. Warm bulbs, not the white ones from the hardware aisle.
It isn't expensive and you don't need an electrician.
The room stays the same. The furniture stays the same. But it starts to feel like somewhere you want to spend the evening, not a waiting room.
The big light is for hoovering.
