Entrepreneurial Overwhelm and Decision Making Struggles

The modern life has it so that adulting , whatever the occupation or employment status, is a very busy affair. However good we might be for a while at crossing stuff off the 'to do' list, it only ever gets longer.

It is particularly rampant in the entrepreneurship space. I know it from my own lived experience and from looking around the world as I go about my business.

I'd argue that it is hardly our own doing.

The world is such.

Sometimes - in fact, a little more often than I am comfortable with - the inevitable overwhelm of the never-ending worldly demands leads to our brains temporarily (hopefully!) losing their sharpness.

Have you ever struggled to choose a film to watch, jumping from one to another, unable to make up your mind?

Or what to wear?

Or what to cook for dinner?

It is NOT, as the world would have us believe, a flaw or an insufficiency on our part.

It is our common biology and physiology. Nature made us this way, and, I'd argue, it know what it is doing.

Nevertheless, we still have to participate in the world as it currently is.

But it's good to keep it at the forefront of our awareness; the fact that we are not flawed. In fact, our physiology and biology are working as designed by responding as it does when the systems we inhabit demand of us more than is reasonable.

So if you take anything away from this, take the paragraph immediately above this one.

Apparently, there's a fancy street slang for this phenomena - 'analysis paralysis'.

I didn't know this term when I was first approached to contribute to the below article for Bustle a couple of years ago. I prefer not cutting corners with language I use as cutting corners does not help people fully appreciate the things that are happening in them.

Nevertheless, the term exists.

And it exists because it's a thing that is happening to too many people. So we’re definitely not alone in it.
