One thing I will be watching very closely - is the relationship with Europe, since Burnham has made it clear that he wants a closer working relationship with the EU, what does NOT mean rejoining the EU tomorrow, but in fact, he has repeatedly said that reversing Brexit is not his immediate plan. Also I think there are several things that could happen over the next few months.
• Easier trade for British businesses, especially food exports.
• More cooperation on defence and security.
• Youth mobility agreements that allow young people to work and travel more easily.
• Closer cooperation on energy, climate and technology.
• Less paperwork between the UK and the EU.
There are also bigger theories. Some believe Burnham is simply trying to make Brexit work better. Others think this is the first step towards rebuilding trust with Europe before any bigger conversation happens in the future.Personally, I think businesses will care less about politics and more about one question - will it become easier to sell, hire, export and grow?
If the answer is yes, then UK businesses could be entering a very different chapter over the next few years. Is this simply a practical reset with Europe, or the beginning of something much bigger?
