OpenAI told developers yesterday that GPT-4o, 4o mini, 4.1 and 4.1 mini are leaving the API on January 14, 2027. Replacement for all of them: gpt-6-luna.

Three months is not a lot if you have a product quietly running on 4o mini because it was cheap and "good enough". Fine-tunes go down with their base models too, so those need redoing, not just a model name swap.
