Running watches are brilliant. Pace, heart rate, cadence, splits, recovery time. Everything you could want.
And somehow they make a lot of people run worse.
You look at the screen every 200 metres. The pace drops a few seconds and you speed up, even when the plan says easy. A hill shows up and you fight it instead of just going slower. The run turns into a test you can fail.
Once a week I think it is worth going out with nothing. No pace, no numbers. Just the route and how your breathing feels.
It is a bit uncomfortable at first. Then you start noticing things. Where you get lazy. Where you push for no reason.
Business has the same problem now. Every tool has a dashboard. Visitors today. Clicks this hour. Open rates. Followers since yesterday.
Checking them all the time feels like work. Mostly it is just worrying with a graph.
The numbers matter. Look at them once a week, properly, and make a decision.
The rest of the time, talk to customers. Watch what they do. Listen to the words they use.
That is the part no dashboard shows you.
