ChatGPT can lock a chat now.
You hide it from your history, from pinned chats, from search. To open it again you need your PIN or your face.
When I read this, my first thought was not "nice feature".
It was: which chats would I lock?
And the funny thing is... I knew the answer in two seconds.
Not the business stuff. Not the emails I asked it to fix.
The other ones. The late chats where I was thinking out loud about money. About a decision I was not sure about. About things I did not tell anybody yet.
Somewhere on the way that chat window became a bit of a diary for me. I never planned it.
A diary that opens for anyone who sits down at my laptop.
We tell AI things we don't tell people. And then we leave it open.
One thing to know: locked is not deleted. It stays in your account, your other settings don't change. It is a curtain, not a shredder.
I will use it. But it also made me think a little. If I want to hide a chat, maybe the better question is why I wrote it to a machine and not to a real person.
Maybe both are fine.
It is rolling out slowly, three dots next to the chat and then Lock chat. I saw it in the October update list.
