I checked what is happening in 2026. Strip away most of the AI hype and the useful business advice is actually quite simple.
1. Do not sell AI. Sell a result.
Nobody really cares that your product has AI. They care that it saves 10 hours, gets more quotes out, reduces mistakes or helps them close more sales. McKinsey’s latest B2B research says companies getting value from AI are putting it directly into sales and operating workflows, not just adding an AI feature. McKinsey & Company
2. Small teams can now behave like big teams.
AI should replace admin before you hire another person. Research, follow-ups, proposals, data entry, customer support, content, lead qualification. This is probably one of the biggest opportunities for small businesses right now.
3. Go narrower, not broader.
Generic software is getting easier to build. Industry knowledge is harder to copy. So “software for businesses” is weak. “Software that fixes xyz for companies” is much stronger.
4. Distribution is becoming more important than software.
Building is cheaper and faster now. Getting customers is still hard. Your audience, partnerships, reputation, niche knowledge and relationships become more valuable.
5. Human trust is becoming more valuable, not less.
AI can write 10,000 emails. That means a genuine call, introduction, recommendation or useful conversation stands out more. McKinsey’s 2026 research still puts trusted relationships and understanding customer needs at the centre of B2B sales. McKinsey & Company
6. Stop experimenting with AI for the sake of experimenting.
Nearly 90% of organisations are experimenting with AI, but only around 7% report scaling it across the business. That tells you something. Playing with tools is not the advantage. Building one working system around them is.
