An English school teacher taught me an important human behaviour lesson today.
She teaches English for Grades 7 to 12. In a conversation about her everyday life, she went on to say
Grade 7 is always excited to learn & they start writing the moment i ask them to.
Grade 8 & 9 on the other hand are less excited, seeking for a reason to do the writing.
Grade 10, 11 & 12 simply write when i ask them to, knowing they need this for good grades.
Hearing this made me reflect how we grownups are so similar.
The first time, we are all excited doing certain things. Once we realize the time & energy needed to do them, we are less excited & start looking for strong reasons to get done with them. Over time, excitement completely wears out & the task becomes a duty. We realize its a responsibility now & we just gotta do them whether we like it or not.
On the flipside, this behaviour applies to every human our startups engage too! It could be our employees or our customers. They all go through the same cycle.
Now knowing this, I would ideally prefer customers at Grade 10, 11 & 12 level who are more aware & already realize the need to get things done. I assume they are relatively easy to sell to.
Who would you want to sell to?
