
Every farmer feels it, even if no one says it out loud: the ground is giving less than it used to. Yields plateau. Inputs cost more every season. The soil that fed a farm for generations now needs to be pushed harder each year just to stand still.
This isn't bad luck. It's a cycle. Intensive farming strips organic matter and microbial life from the soil. Depleted soil needs more synthetic fertilizer. More fertilizer — most of it built from four or five elements and shipped in from far away — degrades the soil biology further and adds cost, carbon, and dependency. According to the FAO Global Soil Partnership, a third of the world's soils are already degraded. The soil gets hungrier; the margins get thinner. Feeding a growing planet on this model is a treadmill nobody can stay on.
We started Sapropel Organics because the way off the treadmill isn't more input. It's better soil.
The answer has been forming quietly for ten thousand years. At the bottom of freshwater lakes, organic matter settles and decomposes without oxygen — slowly, over millennia. What accumulates is called sapropel: a colloidal, microbial cell-free sediment that concentrates more than 40 different compounds — enzymes, amino acids, proteins, organic and humic acids, trace elements. Ten thousand years of fertility compressed into one material.
Most soil inputs try to replace what the soil has lost. Sapropel does something different — it helps the soil remember how to make fertility itself.
From sapropel we produce Humuson Complex, engineered to do four things a bag of synthetic fertilizer can't:
Restart the soil's own fertility — relaunching its capacity to self-restore, not just topping it up for a season.
Reactivate the microbial factories that cycle nutrients and build structure.
Make existing fertilizer work harder — lifting the efficiency of a grower's fertilization budget by at least 25%.
Raise the harvest — 10–15% more yield, with better plant health and water retention.
And it's honest all the way down: produced cold (under 39°C, no CO₂ from heating), 100% biodegradable, manufactured entirely in the EU under Regulation 2019/1009 and organic Regulation 2018/848.
We don't ask anyone to take this on faith. In independent trials with DSV in Germany (2022), Humuson-treated perennial ryegrass and winter oilseed rape showed measurable gains in germination capacity, seedling vigor, and field emergence versus untreated checks — the unglamorous, repeatable metrics that tell you a soil input actually works. Those are the numbers we'd want to see before trusting anything on our own fields, so they're the numbers we lead with.
For a grower, the equation is simple: healthier soil, a fertilizer budget that stretches further, and a yield lift that shows up at harvest. For a distributor, it's a differentiated product in a biostimulants market growing at double digits — one that is OMRI-listed and certified by Ecocert, USDA and WSDA, with a supply chain rooted entirely in the EU.
Harvesting sapropel doesn't damage the lakes it comes from — it restores them. Left alone, these lakes silt up and eventually dry out. Careful extraction reverses that, keeping the water alive. The same act that fertilizes a field also heals an ecosystem — with no CO₂ debt in between.
