Robots will start competing for physical work

I am deep into AI. I use it every day, I build with it, and I honestly love what these tools let a small team do.

Which is exactly why I can't afford to miss what people like Bill Gates are saying.

He published a new essay on Gates Notes on the 26th of August. Almost 6000 words. Title is "The turbulent AI era is here. The choices we make now are critical." Link below, read the whole thing, not the headlines about it.

His point is not that AI is bad. His point is that we have no plan. He says AI will take on work in law, customer service, medicine, software and manufacturing over a decade, not over generations, and that robots will start competing for physical work in construction and hospitality by the end of this decade. He also says something that stuck with me - that he sees no evidence leaders and communities are confronting this adequately.

Even this post was not actually written by me. I recorded my thoughts while out running, then put the recording into Claude to turn it into a proper text and fix my English. And heres how Claude corrected what I originally said:

And here is the part I keep coming back to. I think most people, maybe 98 percent, still believe that AI is a chatbot. You open a window, you type, it writes you an email. That is it. So when they hear these warnings they think it sounds dramatic, because how threatening can a chat window be.

But we are talking about our kids maybe not needing a university. About Elon Musk saying money will not matter in 2036. These are not fringe people saying this.

I don't know who is right. Nobody does. The only thing I am sure about is that I have to keep watching this every single week, because if you sit out two years of this you will not catch up. Not in business, not in how you build anything.
